BIRMINGHAM (AL) – Terrific New Theater has been serving up wine, cheese and laughter since 1986. The theater is located in historic Pepper Place on 2nd Avenue South, which is host to the wildly successful Pepper Place Market each spring. Thursdays feature TADA night, when you pay what you can afford for great entertainment. Otherwise, tickets are $25, with musicals $30. TADA doesn’t apply to opening night for any show, since openings always feature wine and cheese following the show. Check out the calendar and season tickets are always a good way to go.
BOSTON (MA) - Boston offers something for everyone. The parks are beautiful, the people are friendly and there’s every possible genre of food. There are plenty of entertainment options featured on boston.com, available here. Be sure to check the forecast before travel, as Boston can be 550 one day and in blizzard conditions the next. If driving in the ice and snow is not your thing, there are plenty of great affordable hotels near the subway, which is great. Maps are clearly designed and a 7-day pass (called a Charlie Pass) for unlimited travel by subway, local bus, inner harbor ferry, or commuter rail (Zone 1A) is only $18 – a huge savings over taxi fare. If you’re just in town for a day, a 1-day unlimited pass is only $11. Visit the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority for details.
NEW YORK (NY) - If you’re in or near the city, National Geographic has a great list of venues from museums, wine tastings, pizza and more to enjoy at no cost, or very reasonable admission.
